The Calgary Ultimate Association has around 95 teams playing four nights a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) in various leagues from A (highly competitive) through C (interested in beer on the sidelines).
Ultimate is a non-contact, self-refereed sport played with a Disc ("frisbee") and a flat field. Calgary Ultimate runs summer, fall and winter leagues. The summer league is a co-ed format, with 4 guys and 3 girls on the field at once (for all leagues).
There is also a tournament -- in its 25th year as of 2005 -- called "Ho Down" (A and B pools) and "Slo Down" (C pools) played at the Calgary Rugby Union (C) and Glenmore Athletic Park (A and B) for two days in the summer (usually the end of June). Ho Down attracts teams from across Canada and from parts of the United States. Spectators who wish to see high-quality Ultimate are welcome and ecouraged, especially at the "A" finals at Glenmore Athletic Park on the Sunday afternoon (there is no charge).
